Patrick is the real deal. He's a blue-chip, NHL-caliber center with size, speed and skill who'll step right into an NHL role in 2017-18 and have a long career. What he's not is a generational superstar like Connor McDavid or Auston Matthews. Patrick is just really, really good. He's coming off an injury-plagued season in which he suffered through not one, but two sports hernias. But in spite of the injuries, he scored 20 goals and 46 points in 33 games. His brilliance was on full display the year before, scoring 41 goals and 102 points in 72 games and earning the Western Hockey League playoff MVP. Patrick plays a solid 200-foot game that's effective, not flashy. Scouts have compared him to guys like Eric Staal or said he's Jonathan Toews-lite. Either way, there's plenty of fantasy value in that.
