Patrick Mahomes' first game as the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs wasn't perfect, but it certainly was good enough in a 27-24 win over the Denver Broncos.
Mahomes didn't have a lot of help in terms of his big-time players. Kareem Hunt only touched the ball one time, a 35-yard touchdown run that started the game. Neither Tyreek Hill nor Travis Kelce played in this one.
The rookie went 22-for-35 for 284 yards. He threw an interception and had a tough time hanging around in the pocket when the going got tough. Mahomes rushed for 10 yards on seven carries.
Albert Wilson had one of the biggest games of his career for the Chiefs, catching 10 passes for 147 yards.
This game could serve as a glimpse into the future for the Broncos as well. Paxton Lynch started and went the whole way. He had some good moments, but his final stats were suspect: 21-for-31 for 254 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
The best news for Lynch is that he got Demaryius Thomas involved in the offense. He was targeted eight times, catching six passes for 57 yards and a touchdown in one of his best games of a dull season.
