Geno Smith isn't going to be given a heck of a chance in the Empire State, but he played about as well as could be expected for the New York Giants against the Oakland Raiders.
The G-Men were handed their tenth loss of the season, but at least Smith didn't embarrass himself as the first man to start a game for Big Blue since 2004 not named Eli Manning.
Smith went 21-for-34 for 212 yards with a touchdown in one of the better starts of his career. He showed maturity at times by throwing the ball away. Though he avoided interceptions, Smith also lost two fumbles on the afternoon.
Towards the end of the first quarter, Smith was actually beating Derek Carr 63-7 in the passing yards department. Carr recovered, of course, to throw for 287 yards and a touchdown to beat his Projected Fantasy Points total.
The story, though, was Marshawn Lynch. "Beast Mode" has been good, though not spectacular in his homecoming to Oakland, but this was his best showing yet. For the first time since 2015, Lynch went over 100 yards on the ground.
With Amari Cooper sidelined and Michael Crabtree serving the first game of a two-game suspension, Cordarrelle Patterson led the way with four catches for 97 yards. Johnny Holton, who was on the field for almost every snap, had three catches, 39 yards and a touchdown. Both men beat their PFP totals.
