In a game that looked more appealing to network executives three months ago, the New York Giants will travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Redskins this week. Both of these teams had real playoff aspirations when the season began, but they have crashed and burned in spectacular fashion since.
The Giants are 2-1 against the AFC West and 0-7 against the rest of the NFL. While injuries have ravaged the team, there have also been near-mutinies at times and rumors of players quitting on the coach. However, they still managed to double their win total last week by beating a Kansas City squad that was coming off a bye.
Late in the fourth quarter of Week 11, the Redskins had a 15-point lead in New Orleans. They were on the verge of climbing back to .500 with an outside shot at a playoff spot, but Drew Brees ripped the hearts out of every Redskin fan and player by tying the game in regulation and winning in overtime.
With both teams out of playoff contention and thinking about next season, we’ve identified players to target and fade to give Dober Fantasy Players a reason to stay awake after the Thanksgiving feast.
New York Giants Week 12 Projected Fantasy Points
Eli Manning: 14.0 PFP
Sterling Shepard: 11.0 PFP
Evan Engram: 10.5 PFP
Orleans Darkwa: 9.0 PFP
Aldrick Rosas: 5.5 PFP
Wayne Gallman: 5.0 PFP
Washington Redskins Week 12 Projected Fantasy Points
Kirk Cousins: 17.5 PFP
Vernon Davis: 9.5 PFP
Jamison Crowder: 9.0 PFP
Samaje Perine: 8.0 PFP
Nick Rose: 7.5 PFP
Josh Doctson: 7.5 PFP
Ryan Grant: 7.0 PFP
Jordan Reed 5.5 PFP
Maurice Harris: 5.0 PFP
Start 'Em: Evan Engram (10.5 PFP)
Dober Fantasy Points Per Game: 9.57
It’s rare to see rookie tight ends perform the way that Engram has over the first 10 games of his career. He ranks among the league leaders at the position in yards and receptions and scored touchdowns in four straight games after Odell Beckham got hurt. Though he laid an egg against the Chiefs on Sunday, such a poor outing is not a common occurrence for the big tight end. Washington has been lit up by players at the position, allowing 14.19 DFP per game and 10.5 DFP or more to tight ends in eight of 10 games this season. Look for Engram to get back on track in this game and eclipse his PFP.
Sit 'Em: Eli Manning (14.0 PFP)
Dober Fantasy Points Per Game: 13.75
The Washington defense has been very giving to opposing quarterbacks this season, allowing 18.4 DFP per game, which is seventh-worst in the NFL. However, like the rest of the Giants, Manning has looked atrocious this year. Even with Sterling Shepard expected to be back healthy on Thursday night, this is a lackluster receiving corps that drops a lot of passes and struggles to run the correct routes to get open. Manning has fewer than 14.0 DFP in seven of 10 games this season and is traveling on a short week. We recommend fading him on Dober Play Cards even in a matchup that looks good on paper.
Start 'Em: Samaje Perine (8.0 PFP)
Dober Fantasy Points Per Game: 5.36
With the running back group in Washington looking like a MASH unit, Perine is the last man left standing. The rookie out of Oklahoma isn’t terribly talented but seems to be in line for a big workload. In the game that Chris Thompson broke his leg, Perine turned 24 touches into 20.1 DFP against an above-average defense. Over the last three weeks, the Giants have been gashed by running backs for 360 yards and three touchdowns. On a team with the only other healthy rushers being signed from the practice squad in the last two weeks, Perine looks like a solid bet for a heavy workload and a decent DFP total.
Sit 'Em: Josh Doctson (7.5 PFP)
Dober Fantasy Points Per Game: 5.75
When Doctson was drafted in the first round in 2016, the ‘Skins surely thought they were getting a better player than the one they ended up with. After catching two passes in two games as a rookie, Doctson has just 19 receptions on the season. He ranks sixth on the team in targets and has just two games with more than 7.6 DFP. The Giants defense was a laughingstock just two weeks ago, but it turned things around against Kansas City, holding a prolific offense to nine points in five quarters. Doctson will run most of his routes against Janoris Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, two players who are far superior to Doctson and should hold him to a low DFP total.
