Over the course of the entire 2017 season, Drew Brees was given a huge helping hand by an improving defense and a resurgent running game.
When the season was on the line against the Carolina Panthers, Brees got little help from much of anyone, but he still got the New Orleans Saints to the finish line in a 31-26 win over the Carolina Panthers.
Brees was fantastic on this day, going 23-for-33 for 376 yards and two touchdowns.
Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram were both surprisingly quiet, combining to run the ball 19 times for just 45 yards. Though Kamara scored a touchdown, neither he nor Ingram beat their Projected Fantasy Points totals.
Former Panther Ted Ginn Jr. and Michael Thomas were both winners on Dober Play Cards with their 100+ yard receiving days.
The Panthers had a pair of 100+ yard receivers as well. Greg Olsen caught eight passes for 107 yards and a touchdown while Christian McCaffrey had an excellent first playoff game in his career, catching six balls for 101 yards and a score.
Cam Newton was constantly under duress and took a bunch of big hits. He collapsed on the sideline in the fourth quarter and was briefly replaced by Derek Anderson. Newton threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns to beat his Projected Fantasy Points total, but he wasn't good enough to ultimately save Carolina's season.
