We're not so sure whether the Kansas City Chiefs or the Denver Broncos have had it worse over the last two weeks. Both teams have been beaten in consecutive games, and both were favorites in each game. Now, the two are set to meet for the first time this season at Arrowhead Stadium in what is shaping up to be a crucial contest for both sides.
The Broncos enter this game at 3-3, and they have all sorts of questions on the offensive side of the ball after getting shut out for the first time in two and a half decades last week against a Chargers defense that isn’t all that great.
The Chiefs, however, have major problems on defensive side of the ball with 84 points allowed over their last three games.
Denver Broncos Week 8 Projected Fantasy Points
Trevor Siemian: 14.0 PFP
Demaryius Thomas: 11.0 PFP
C.J. Anderson: 11.0 PFP
Bennie Fowler: 7.0 PFP
Brandon McManus: 6.5 PFP
A.J. Derby: 5.5 PFP
Devontae Booker: 5.5 PFP
Jamaal Charles: 5.0 PFP
Kansas City Chiefs Week 8 Projected Fantasy Points
Alex Smith: 19.5 PFP
Kareem Hunt: 15.5 PFP
Tyreek Hill: 13.5 PFP
Harrison Butker: 11.0 PFP
Travis Kelce: 10.5 PFP
Albert Wilson: 6.5 PFP
Start 'Em: Trevor Siemian (14.0 PFP)
We know that Trevor Siemian is on a short leash, especially since the Broncos have scored 16 points or fewer in four consecutive games. However, Denver's quarterback has been throwing the ball a ton in recent weeks, including 50 times two weeks ago against the Giants.
Emmanuel Sanders could be back in the lineup in Week 8, and that would surely boost Siemian's prospects. Two touchdown passes against a struggling Kansas City defense would put the beleaguered quarterback past his PFP.
Sit 'Em: Jamaal Charles (5.0 PFP)
For as much as Jamaal Charles would love to stick it to his former team, his usage is way down at this point. He only touched the ball eight times against the Chargers last week while amassing a total of 22 yards from scrimmage. Those eight touches mark the most Charles had in a game since rushing for 56 yards and his lone touchdown of the season against Buffalo in Week 3.
In a related story, Devontae Booker has touched the ball five times in each of his last two games and has taken some time in the backfield away from Charles.
C.J. Anderson is still the alpha dog in this underwhelming group, and with the explosive Booker demanding at least a few more touches per game, there isn't a lot of time left for Charles to make an impact.
Start 'Em: Travis Kelce (10.5 PFP)
Travis Kelce is up against a high PFP this week, but his two games against the Broncos last season have us salivating. The Chiefs' tight end amassed 19 receptions, 261 yards and a touchdown in those two outings, totaling 43.6 Dober Fantasy Points.
Kelce's detractors will be quick to point out that he has had a couple contests this season in which he was a complete no-show, but he has also beaten his PFP in three of his last four matchups.
Sit 'Em: Albert Wilson (6.5 PFP)
We don't understand the love for Albert Wilson. He only had one catch last week, and it just happened to go for a 63-yard touchdown.
Wilson only has 22 targets in seven games this season, and he has a disproportionate 17 receptions on those targets. Alex Smith is the consummate game manager, and he's always going to have a high completion percentage, but a guy like Wilson who is often used in the vertical passing game shouldn't be catching 77.3 percent of the balls thrown his way.
With Aqib Talib and Chris Harris on the outside defending against Wilson, he's a low percentage play that is completely dependent on a massive play. Keep Wilson off your Dober Play Card this Monday.
