Trevor Siemian Fantasy News and Statistics

Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian was a standout athlete during his high school career in Florida. The talents he displayed as a prep player in the Sunshine State helped land him an opportunity to play for Northwestern University.

Siemian started off his college career as Dan Persa’s backup at NU, so he did not see much action until the following year after Persa had graduated and left Evanston.

He emerged as the Wildcats’ starter for the 2012 season, and he put together a respectable campaign. His top performance came against Indiana when he completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts for 308 yards. Northwestern won the Gator Bowl that year, and he finished with 128 completions on 218 attempts (58.7 completion percentage) for 1,312 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.

As a junior, Siemian’s play improved because of his experience as the team felt comfortable with him throwing more frequently. In the final game of the season against Illinois, he completed 31 of his 41 pass attempts for 414 yards and four touchdowns. By the end of the year, he completed 178 of his 298 pass attempts (59.7 completion percentage) for 2,149 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Siemian did not exactly put together a stellar 2014 season, though. While Pat Fitzgerald and the coaching staff trusted him to throw more, the results were not great. He threw more interceptions (11) than he did touchdowns (seven) while he completed 58.2 percent of his passes for 2,214 yards.

Since his college career did not stand out, he was not projected to be selected in the 2015 NFL Draft. After all, he did not win any major awards during his four years of competing in the Big Ten. However, he ended up being selected by the Denver Broncos late in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Siemian entered the Broncos organization as the team’s No. 3 quarterback stuck behind both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler. Although Manning struggled with both his performance and health, Siemian did not benefit from the situation like Osweiler. The NU product only played in one game, kneeling to end the first half of a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Denver’s quarterback situation was much different for the 2016 season. Manning retired following the team’s Super Bowl 50 victory and Osweiler signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Houston Texans. The Broncos then brought in Mark Sanchez to compete for the starting job, but Siemian was able to win it and make 14 starts that season. However, he missed two games with a sprained AC joint and a foot sprain, respectively.

Siemian had Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders as his primary targets, so he had a productive rookie year. He completed 289 of his 486 pass attempts for 3,401 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

In 2017, Siemian had to compete for the starting job yet again with 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch and a returning Osweiler. He was able to win the job out of camp, but all three passers would end up making starts for the Broncos with no definitive answer as to who would be the team’s quarterback of the future.
