Odell Beckham Fantasy News and Statistics

The sports world often houses certain players who are scrutinized by the media and made out to be worse than they really are on and off the field. One player who gets the attention of the media ad nauseum is Odell Beckham Jr. He has been known to have a bit of a temper when things don’t go his way on the field. But when things are going according to plan, Beckham is among the top 3 elite receivers in the NFL. His playing ability is extraordinary, and that’s why the New York Giants picked him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft with the No. 12 overall selection.

Beckham went to Louisiana State University, and in his first year suited up and started nine of the 14 games for the Tigers down in the Bayou. His first career touchdown came against the Mountaineers of West Virginia. It was an impressive 52-yard pass and catch, so Beckham was able to show off his phenomenal speed early on. He experienced a taste of the BCS Championship game atmosphere in his first collegiate season as well. The Tigers dropped a 21-0 decision to SEC opponent Alabama, however, in a rematch from a tilt earlier in the season.

During his sophomore year, Beckham collected his first 100-yard game to pass another personal collegiate milestone. For the season, he finished as the team’s top receiver with 713 yards on 43 receptions. Fellow Tigers wideout Jarvis Landry was the only one with more catches.

Beckham played one more season in the purple and yellow before declaring for the NFL Draft, but he’d make the best of it. Between him and Landry, they were able to form one of the best receiving duos in college football. One of his biggest highlight-reel plays during his junior year was when he returned a failed field goal attempt for a record 109 yards to the house for a touchdown. He also had a career-high 204 receiving yards in a game against Furman.

Beckham won the 2013 Paul Hornung Award for his amazing efforts as a special teams player in his third and final season with the Tigers. He ended his career with an impressive third-year stat line of 57 receptions for 1,117 yards and eight touchdowns.

His time in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine was impressive, as he ran a 4.43 40-yard dash thanks to his fluid and fast motion. Beckham is able to lower his hips and switch gears to gain the separation needed to turn on the afterburners. This was definitely part of the reason the Giants drafted him.

Beckham missed the first four games of his NFL rookie season due to a hamstring injury. However, he scored his first career professional touchdown in his debut a week later. On November 23, 2014, Beckham made his famous “catch of the year” in the corner of the end zone. It might have not only been the catch of the year, but one of the best of all time. In December of that season, he became the first rookie to record 12-plus receptions, 140 yards and three touchdowns in a game. He was also the youngest player ever to be picked for the cover of the Madden video franchise, as he appeared on the ’16 version of the game. In three seasons with the Giants, Beckham hasn’t had less than 1,300 yards, and he’ll be out for more in 2017 and beyond.
