Super Bowl LI will forever live in the memory of Atlanta fans. The Falcons faithful will try to forget, but it’s one of those extremely painful life experiences that can’t easily be expunged from the soul.
Here’s the recap of the Bloody Sunday evening: Atlanta was up 28-3 against New England, and looked poised to claim its first ever Super Bowl title. Then, disaster struck. The Falcons melted down on defense because the offense couldn’t stay on the field. Tom Brady worked his magic and led the Pats to one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.
While the last year will be seen as a successful one in the long-term, this team will carry the loss in the back of their minds throughout 2017.
Matt Ryan had his best season ever in 2016. Ryan was worth 22.22 Dober Fantasy Points an outing, and he led the highest scoring offense in the NFL. The Falcons were held under 23 points just once all season as he flourished in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. Top target Julio Jones benefited too, with 16.24 DFP a game.
Under new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, expect to see diminished production from Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. Freeman averaged 16.19 DFP and Coleman averaged 13.58 DFP last season in Shanahan’s system. However, Sarkisian is unlikely to use either runner out of the backfield as frequently as Shanahan did. As a result, both are likely to be overvalued early on. Plan accordingly in your week-to-week Dober matchups.
