There are some big stars in the game, and while Mike Trout and Bryce Harper may have stolen the spotlight to date, Giancarlo Stanton is now on the biggest stage in the Bronx. Alongside Aaron Judge, the pair will take their share of the attention in 2018 as the newest bash brothers. The power-hitting outfielder has long been the premier home run hitter of the new young crop of Major League stars. He showed that off with a healthy season in 2017. Health has always been the biggest issue in producing consistent Dober Fantasy Points. If he can stay healthy in 2018, he should have a monster season hitting homers over the short porch in the Bronx.
2017: The hitter formerly known as Mike Stanton finally played a full season. Along with the good health came strong results. Before last year, he topped out at 37 homers and 105 RBIs. With a full season, Stanton belted a career-high 59 home runs and drove in a league-leading 132 RBIs. Those numbers were enough to crown him the NL MVP despite playing for a sub-.500 club. While power was the focal point of his offense, he wasn’t homer-or-bust. Instead, he hit .281 and drew 85 walks, giving him a .376 OBP. To go along with the homers and RBIs, Stanton also scored 123 runs. Of course, he drove himself in 59 of those times. Along with the premier offense came strong defensive play in right field. Overall, Stanton produced 9.34 Dober Fantasy Points per game in 2017—the 12th highest position player total in the big leagues.
