The Sanchize’s career couldn’t have gotten off to a better start. After the New York Yankees sell-off in the summer of 2016, Gary Sanchez was the main attraction in the Bronx. The catcher played just 53 games that season, but he ended up hitting .299 with 20 homers and finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting. Proving his 2016 success was more than a flash in the pan, he followed up with a strong performance in his first full year of 2017 despite some injuries. He’s now a proven 30-homer bat and major Dober Fantasy Points producer at a premier position. Offensively, he’s arguably the best catcher in the game. If only his defense could keep up.

2017: Going from 53 games in 2016, we saw a much bigger sample size for Sanchez in 2017 with 122 games played. He missed some time early due to injury, but he came back to produce a strong season, crushing 33 homers, driving in 90 runs and putting up a .278/.345/.531 slash line. Even considering the bandboxes in the AL East—including the short right-field porch at Yankee Stadium—Sanchez finished 26 percent better than the average Major Leaguer at the dish per his OPS+. He was a strong producer both home and away. As for his first and second-half split, he saw his power jump after the All-Star break. He didn’t perform quite at the same pace as he did in 2016, but it was close. In his final 65 games, he belted 20 homers and drove in 50 with an .896 OPS. He took over for the Yankees in August while Aaron Judge slumped and helped carry the team to Game 7 of the ALCS.
