The reigning AL MVP, Jose Altuve dominated the 2017 campaign despite his diminutive stature. The 27-year-old second baseman broke onto the scene in 2014 with an All-Star campaign, leading the league in batting at .341 and dominating the base paths with his blazing speed. He was the prototypical lead-off hitter. Over the last couple seasons, he’s added a bit of power to his repertoire, too. He’s hit 24 homers each of the last two years to go along with more than 30 steals and a league-leading average. Over the last few campaigns, he’s consistently been one of the top performers based on total Dober Fantasy Points and he still seems to be getting better.

2017: Often underrated due to his size, the second baseman finally got the recognition he deserved with MVP honors as he led the Houston Astros to a World Series title. He finished 2017 with his fourth straight 200-hit season and led the league in hitting for the third time in four years. At .346, his average was the best of his career. The same can be said for his OBP and slugging percentage, sitting at .410 and .547, respectively. Speed and average have always been there for Altuve, but he’s started to develop power recently. He hit 24 homers and tallied 67 total extra-base hits, driving in 81 runs and scoring 112 more. In addition, he swiped 32 bags while being caught just six times.
