It’s hard to ignore the plethora of young talent in the Major Leagues today. From Mike Trout to Bryce Harper, the game is thriving with young talent leading the way to a new generation of fans. While the sport is ripe with talent at every position, it’s especially true at shortstop. Of the batch of youngsters, Carlos Correa is at the top of the list. He’ll play the 2018 campaign at just 23 years of age, but he’s already had three seasons under his belt. Even with only 99 games played in 2015, the Houston Astro hit at least 20 home runs in all three campaigns. In 361 career contests, he’s produced 399 hits and 66 home runs. To this point, health is the only factor preventing him from fully breaking out in terms of Dober Fantasy Points.
2017: An injury limited Correa to just 109 games, but he needed just 422 at-bats to set career highs in runs and home runs. After hitting in the .270s in his first two years, Correa improved his approach and produced a .315 average while also seeing his power increase. With 50 extra-base hits in 109 games, he bumped his slugging percentage to .550 while his OBP jumped to .391. At just 22, Correa showed the plate discipline of a grizzled vet when he was on the field. Even with the missed time, he managed to secure a few MVP votes. Correa’s first half was epic. He did, however, regress a bit after coming back from injury. He missed some of July and all of August before returning in September. He hit just four homers that month in 25 games, but he still batted .299 with a .358 OBP.
