It’s hard to find a passable Dober Fantasy Points producer on the mound for the Colorado Rockies, but Kyle Freeland had a nice showing in his rookie campaign. Part of a young, talented rotation in Colorado, Freeland found success at Coors Field and pitched well throughout the season. He regressed as the campaign wore on, but that’s common for youngsters not used to the grind of a full MLB season. The young southpaw should be better equipped for the stretch run in 2018.
2017: A dream season for the Colorado native, Freeland made his Major League debut with his hometown team and ranked third on the Rockies in WAR behind superstars Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon. While pitching at Coors is troublesome for most, Freeland thrived in the thin air, compiling a 3.72 ERA at home—nearly a run lower than his road mark. Overall, Freeland was tied for the team lead in wins with 11 while pitching to a 4.10 ERA and 122 ERA+. With a relatively low home run rate given his home park, Freeland managed to work his way out of jams despite a 1.487 WHIP. A 1.7 strikeout-to-walk ratio is a bit disconcerting, but Freeland still managed to provide 156 quality innings in a less-than-forgiving environment in Colorado.
