One of the biggest surprises of 2017, Tommy Pham was an elite producer of Dober Fantasy Points. Is this the real Pham or a flash in the pan? The St. Louis Cardinals have seen their share of offensive one-hit wonders the last few years, from Randal Grichuk to Aledymys Diaz. Is this another example, or does Pham have what it takes to sustain success? He showed power, speed and average as the soon-to-be 30-year-old finally got a chance to play every day.
2017: In a season that came out of nowhere, Pham showed himself as more than a fourth outfielder. He showed he was a five-tool player. Playing well defensively, he also hit for average and power while showing off his speed. In 128 games, Pham produced a 20/20 season, hitting 23 home runs and swiping 25 bags. With a .306 average, he was more than a power bat. He got on base more than 40 percent of the time and produced a .931 OPS and 144 OPS+. He was, unquestionably, the Cardinals best hitter in 2017. With power, speed, defense and a good eye at the plate, he’ll be handed a job in 2018 and expected to repeat his success.
