With an impressive second-half debut in 2016, Alex Bregman earned the everyday job at third base for the eventual World Series Champion Houston Astros. Bregman’s 2017 started slow, but the former shortstop turned a corner mid-year and offered well above-average production at the plate while manning the hot corner. At just 24 years of age, Bregman should continue to improve. He has plenty of upside to provide even more Dober Fantasy Points in 2018.
2017: The youngster put together an incredibly strong season. In what was just his third year in professional baseball, he played 155 regular season games, well over the 129 from 2016. Despite the additional playing time, he grew stronger as the season wore on. He batted .315 with a .903 OPS in the second half, ending the year with a .284/.352/.475 slash line. Bregman was particularly dominant against southpaws, crushing lefties to the tune of a .331 average and .974 OPS. He wasn’t too bad against righties either. Bregman also showed some speed with 17 steals. In the postseason, the opposition pitched him tough and held him to a .208 average, but he still provided a few big hits, including four homers while driving in 10.
