The story of Trevor Story is an interesting one. He turned a lot of heads early in 2016 with an impressive power display. In his first month in the big leagues for the Colorado Rockies, he hit 10 home runs and had 21 bombs by the All-Star break. The power and insanely high BABIP numbers propped up Story’s stats before an injury cost him the final two months. The strong rookie campaign left unrealistic expectations for the youngster in 2017. The swing-and-miss in his game became problematic, and the contact he did make stopped dropping in at an unsustainable rate.
2017: The 2017 season was a regression year for Story. After a powerful first few months minimized the alarming strikeout rate he had in 2016, his numbers came crashing down to earth. While able to play a full season, Story hit fewer home runs in 2017 even as more balls were flying out of the yard around baseball. He hit only 24 dingers, though he did add 32 doubles and three triples. His .457 slugging percentage was down a ways from 2016 but still ended at a reasonable level. His average and OBP, however, both dropped, sitting at .239 and .308, respectively. He also struck out 191 times, leading the National League. Overall, Story produced 5.44 Dober Fantasy Points per game, making him largely irrelevant on the fantasy scene.
